Ionic stimulation is an electrotherapy technique that uses a continuous latest generation current, defined as a “modified” continuous current as it vibrates to help specially prepared cosmetic compounds penetrate the skin. At the same time it encourages exchanges between cells, normalises connective equilibrium and increases biological and enzymatic processes.

As is well known the Stratum Corneum acts as a defensive barrier for our organism, and does not allow external substances to pass freely through it. This defense mechanism is a mechanical one and in the intercellular spaces and in the cellular membranes, an electric one.

Using ionic stimulation, only a few minutes stimulation are needed for the electric field to boost the penetration and diffusion of our specially prepared products containing electrically activated particles.

The electric field we have developed is a powerful drive that propagates the ionized particles or elements and encourages them to begin “swimming” again in the biological fluids under the drive of the movement induced by the new magnetic field. At the same time the residues of metabolic catabolism are carried away and drained towards lymphatic and vein circulation with an
anti-oedema effect.

The way this works is very simple. The patient holds one of the two circuit hand pieces while the operator works the other polarised hand piece on either the face or the body.

The induced electric field helps the product penetrate the skin spreading it evenly through the area selected for treatment. It also encourages oxygenation and stimulates metabolism in the area treated.

Other useful functions induced by the electric fields are a consequence of the stimulation of the muscular fibrils and collagen that make up the walls of the small blood vessels. This improves vessel tone and together with the vasodilation enhances the microcirculation and draining processes. The fields also stimulate the adrenergic intra-tissue nerve ends, which activate certain enzymes responsible for eliminating fat.

CHROMOLIGHT

How does chromotherapy work? Today the therapeutic application of light and colour are being investigated in major hospitals and research centres, used in Spa's and Beauty Clinics worldwide. Chromotherapy uses this approach to restore cells to an even level of balance to stimulate the healing processes.

While the special wave forms used in Synergica™ temporarily improve skin permeability through the re-organisation of the epidermal cells and the creation of electro pores, the Amber light is able to stimulate the cells in their primary metabolic functions.

In addition to all the above it is important to notice that amber derives from a fusion between yellow and red and for this reason amber incorporates the beneficial effects and variations that these two colours have on the skin system and the energy-giving inter-structural system.

The use of the amber light has beneficial effects on the nervous system, as well as on the digestive system and on any body area. Amber lights are also very effective in improving stretch-marks as well as thoroughly cleaning of the skin.

Yellow

In beauty treatments, Yellow has many important and efficacious functions. It brings strength and harmony to the central nervous system and can therefore be used on all paravertebral areas with a consequent positive effect on all the organs situated at the front of the body such as the stomach, intestine and bladder. It also has a detoxifying effect on the skin tissue and is particularly suited to all kinds of skin suffering from asphyxia, impurities and acne.

On the body it is ideal for the treatment of both fibrous and edematose cellulite accumulation. In cases of both skin and body vasodilation we recommend the use of an electrode with an amber light in the areas around lymph discharge. This reduces problems such as tele-angietasis, rashes and couperosis.

Red

Red has stimulating and energising effects on both blood circulation and the entire sensory system. It rejuvenates the skin by improving blood-flow and increasing collagen production. As a result Red is particularly suited for the treatment of poor energy levels. In the field of beauty treatment it is used for its hyper-hematising and toning effects.

Blue
Very beneficial for anti-inflammatory treatments with strong sterilizing properties.

As first step to understand the special function of the unit Synergica™, we believe that it is of the main importance to properly identify the different words which will be used in the text, as well as give a clear explanation of the similar methodologies existing in the market. Here below it is possible to find a clear and easily understandable explanation of what are electroporation and electroosmosis:

ELECTROPORATION

The application of very brief, carefully controlled, pulsed, rotating electrical fields to human cells, a process that causes pores to open in the cell membrane and allows pharmaceuticals or genes to gain access to the cell's interior. This methodology is mainly used for DNA delivery and special medical treatments. The use of electroporation became very popular through the 1980s because it was found to be an exceptionally practical way to place drugs, DNA or other molecules into cells. In
the late 1980s, scientists began to use electroporation for applications in multi-cellular tissue. Electroporation of cell membranes is used as a tool in injecting drugs and DNA into the cell (Tsong, 1991). Electroporation is also the basic mechanism of tissue injury in high-voltage electric shock (Lee, 1994).

In this methodology the used medical and cosmetics products need to be electrically “charged”, in
order to penetrate in the skin.

ELECTRO-OSMOSIS

The movement of a liquid through a capillary tubing or porous solid driven by an electrical potential difference. This technique is also called "electro-endo-osmosis" and its effects are quite similar to “electro-kinetic” ones. In fact, this phenomena arise due to a charge separation caused by the relative motion of a solid and liquid phase.

A portion of the Gouy-Chapman diffuse layer is sheared off as the two phases move relative to each other, resulting in a charge separation. The hydrodynamic boundary layer remains attached to the solid surface while the rest of the liquid moves separately; consequently, electro-osmosis effects arise when the "diffuse double layer" is thicker that the "hydrodynamic boundary layer."

The electrical potential difference between the bulk solution and the "shear plane" is the "zeta potential" (often called the "electro-kinetic potential"). An effect of that, a movement of the two phases will arise relative to each other if an electrical
potential is applied parallel to the phase boundary (electro-osmosis and electro-phoresis).

Accordingly, "electro-osmosis" includes the following "electro-kinetic effects": Streaming potential arises when liquid is flowing by a solid surface, e.g., when liquid is forced through a capillary tubing or porous solid by a pressure differential.

Sedimentation potential arises when small suspended particles move through a liquid (e.g., forced by gravity). This can occur in "dispersions" (suspended solid particles) or "emulsions" (suspended immiscible liquid droplets). Also called "electro-phoretic potential" or "Dorn potential."

Electro-phoresis is the movement of small suspended particles in a liquid driven by an electrical potential difference. This can occur in "dispersions" (suspended solid particles) or "emulsions" (suspended immiscible liquid droplets). Also called "cataphoresis." This first medical introduction will be of help to us in better understanding the following explanation relevant to the effects produced by Synergica™ on the skin.

The main obstacle to products’ penetration in the skin, following traditional methodologies, is represented from the high skin impedance. In fact, it is in the most outside layer of the skin, the corneum layer, that most of the energy is dispersed.

The corneum layer could be described as a wall, were the cells are the bricks and they are cemented together from the intercellular lymph. By applying a product to it, the small liposoluble molecules might split on the corneum layer, thus
spreading across the double layer of lipidic membranes, but the hydro soluble molecules might not enter in a significant way. The combined action of special wave forms and pulsed amber light, present in Synergica™, temporarily increases the permeability of the cellular structures by means of special electrical impulses that momentarily re-adjust the structure of the epidermis cells, creating new channels through which the molecules of the active principles applied can gradually penetrate by means of electro-osmosis until the most active layers.

The potential difference induced by the applied energies, combined with the special vibrating current and the potential of pulsed light creates an electron flow that affects the liquids in the intercellular spaces, draining the tissue and creating new watery channels called electro pores between the cells. It is through these channels that the active principles applied penetrate the skin.

Once these electro pores have been created they remain open for the entire duration of the impulse and receive energy from the pulsed light that is projected at the same time as the vibrating current to stimulate the receptors and aid muscle toning and the draining of liquids from the intercellular spaces.

The special combined between current and light in Synergica™ allow a trandsdermal conduction of active principles and cellular stimulation for Face and Body.

Transdermal transport means that molecules cross the intact horny layer. Two potential micro-routes of entry exist, the transcellular (or intracellular) and the intercellular pathways (Figure 4). The special micro-vibrating current characteristic of Synergica™ is better able to penetrate the tortuous intercellular pathway, which is considered to provide the principal route and major barrier to the permeation of most active principles.

CURRENTS USED

The Synergica™ tool supplies a continuous latest generation current. The current used can be defined as a “modified” continuous current as it vibrates.

This is achieved by adding a special “saw tooth” wave formation to the basic continuous current, thus provoking a “sieve” effect micro-vibration that helps the product penetrate the skin more effectively.

The equipment that used to be employed in this kind of treatment always left an unpleasant taste of electricity in the patient’s mouth. Synergica™ on the other hand is a pleasant experience that is so delicate the customer hardly even notices it is being performed.
